Baby Bonds in Action: Spoken Word

April 04th, 2024

On February 22, EPIC and GRACE/End Child Poverty CA convened leaders in the Baby Bonds movement from across the nation. Jose Cordon–a community organizer, entrepreneur, and the Poet Laureate of Antioch–performed a spoken word at the conclusion of the event to capture what he heard that day.

We’re excited for this moment, this movement

Moving from theory to practice

To eradicate racial wealth gaps with income and assets

We’re excited for what CAN BE

To build an economy where people CAN breathe

One that spreads hope and prosperity

And promotes human capability

We’re excited, we know we can do this

But some argue, “it’s too unproven”…

A lack of courage…

These ideas aren’t new, we just improved them

With advocates, and organizers, and politicians, academics, funders,

and poets

These are cross-sector solutions

We’re excited to leave legacies

For the future that Baby Nolan is gonna see

Here’s to help with no limits

To help and love that is unrestricted

To a foundation for all

With new language and vision

We live in abundance

I hope that you can see it.
